5 things to do at Lake Léon
In the heart of the Landes region, along the Atlantic coast, Lake Léon is one of the largest lakes in the Landes. It is also the birthplace of the famous Courant d'Huchet. What to do at Lake Léon? Here are the best activities to do with your family to enjoy the sunny days on the shores of this peaceful and green paradise.
SWIMMING AND WATER ACTIVITIES
In a green setting of 340 hectares, just a few minutes from the 5* Le Vieux Port campsite, Lake Léon is an essential water sports centre in the Landes. In summer, you can take advantage of the calm waters of the lake to swim under the supervision of lifeguards or laze on the warm sand. But to take full advantage of this Natura 2000 listed site, the best thing to do is to go for a ride in an electric boat, pedal boat, canoe or Hawaiian pirogue. Try out the giant stand-up paddle for 4 or 10 people. A convivial moment to share with family or friends. You can paddle on the lake at sunset in an enchanting setting. A change of scenery guaranteed!
PUT DOWN YOUR FISHING ROD AND TEASE THE CARP
Are you more of a spearfisherman or a lure fisherman? Renowned for its trophy fish, the Léon lake is very popular with fishing enthusiasts. Carp, black-bass, pike, pike-perch and perch inhabit this beautiful natural lake. Go to the pontoon of the Léon lake if you wish to share a good moment with other fishermen. Unless you prefer to tease the carnivore from the comfort of your float tube. Boat fishing is allowed, but the speed limit is 10 km/h.
GET SOME HEIGHT WITH THE ACCROBRANCHE
On the banks of Lake Léon, come and test your adventurous talents and play acrobat in the trees. With courses adapted to all, from 3 to 99 years old, the "Là-Haut Aventure Park" offers a hundred or so workshops at height: giant zip lines, nets, monkey bridges, Tarzan jumps, footbridges, rolling games... The courses are diversified and the team gives us confidence with humour. Relaxation and thrills guaranteed for the family.
GO HIKING IN THE NATURE RESERVE OF THE COURANT D'HUCHET
Lake Léon is the birthplace of the famous Huchet Current, a small coastal river that flows out of the Landes forest into the Atlantic Ocean at Moliets-et-Maâ. In addition to trips in a galupe in the company of boatmen, we recommend that you discover this natural jewel of the Landes along the marked paths of the Nature Reserve, from the Pichelèbe bridge to the Pipe marsh. The route passes through various landscapes with a tropical forest feel, earning it the nickname of the Landes Amazon.
CANOE DOWN THE PALUE TO THE LAC DE LÉON
In the extension of the Courant d'Huchet nature reserve, La Palue is one of the small rivers that feed Lake Léon, in the heart of the Landes forest. The perfect setting for a bucolic and relaxing canoeing trip! Meet at the edge of the river for a descent of about 8 kilometres to the Léon lake, in the meanders of a Natura 2000 classified site. Escape and adventure for all the family!
