What's more, the mild, sunny climate makes it an attractive destination all year round.
The Landes is a great place to visit all year round, but the months from May to September are particularly good for enjoying outdoor activities and beaches. In summer, the temperatures are ideal for swimming and water sports, while in spring and autumn you can enjoy mild temperatures and lush landscapes without the summer crowds.
The Landes is perfect for a host of outdoor activities, including surfing, paddle-boarding, kayaking, hiking, cycling, horse-riding and fishing. The region is also renowned for its golf courses and thalassotherapy centres, ideal for a wellness break.
The Landes region is easily accessible by car via the A63 motorway. The region is also served by TGV stations at Dax and Bayonne, and by the airports at Biarritz and Bordeaux. Bus and shuttle services are available for getting around the region.

There are plenty of local markets where you can buy fresh produce and handicrafts. The main towns also have supermarkets and a variety of shops. The markets in Vieux-Boucau-lès-Bains, Hossegor and Dax are particularly renowned for their atmosphere and the quality of their produce.
The water temperature in the Landes varies between 18°C and 24°C during the summer season. July and August are the hottest months, offering ideal conditions for swimming and water sports.
Supervised beaches in the Landes, such as Messanges, Vieux-Boucau and Hossegor, offer safe bathing areas staffed by lifeguards. Lakes such as Léon and Soustons are also safe places for family bathing.
