Swimming on the lake's beaches
Looking for a family beach in Hossegor where the kids can have fun in complete safety? Close to the town centre and all its entertainment, Lac d'Hossegor offers a number of pretty beaches perfect for families, sheltered from the waves and wind. There are four supervised beaches to choose from: Plage des Chênes-Lièges (south-west), Plage Blanche (west bank), Plage du Rey (north-east) and Plage du Parc (south-east). All are easy to get to, with parking facilities and great spots for picnics in the shade of the pine trees.
Practise your favourite water sport: paddle, canoe, pirogue...
Lake Hossegor, 2,300 metres long and 300 metres wide, is a little corner of paradise where water sports are king: catamaran, dinghy, windsurf, paddle, canoe, pedalo... The calm waters of the lake lend themselves particularly well to paddle sports such as stand-up paddle, Hawaiian pirogue and canoe-kayak. Several sailing clubs and schools are available for lessons and equipment hire.
Taste oysters in the cabins
A remnant of the ancient Adour estuary, the Hossegor marine lake is fed by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean and is therefore subject to the tides. This particularity means that the oysters bred here are subtly iodised. Less well known than their Arcachon neighbours, Hossegor oysters have a nutty flavour that is sure to please connoisseurs. You can buy them or taste them on the spot. Oyster farmers welcome you to their lakeside huts.
