Discover the Casernes beach in Seignosse

Published on 28/05/2024

Seignosse is renowned for its beaches full of character. Among them, the Plage des Casernes is often cited as one of the most beautiful in the Landes. Access to the beach, swimming, water temperature, surfing conditions - we tell you everything you need to know to make the most of it!

Les Casernes: an exceptional natural beach in Seignosse

Les Casernes beach in Seignosse is a regular in the rankings of the most beautiful beaches in the Landes region. Yet it is the least frequented in Seignosse. That's because it's so far from the town centre. Situated to the north of the seaside resort, away from all the hustle and bustle, this large sandy beach cultivates its difference and its wild side: a wild and unspoilt setting, between dunes and forest!

There are no concrete buildings or visual pollution here, just forest and sand as far as the eye can see. When you reach the top of the dune, you feel like you're at the end of the world. The panorama is spectacular: you can see the Pyrenees on a clear day. It's a complete change of scenery!

A wild beach, but with a few amenities in summer

Although the beach doesn't offer a wide range of facilities and amenities, it does offer a few conveniences for visitors. The essentials are there: a snack bar, showers and toilets.

The bathing area is supervised by lifeguards during the summer season, guaranteeing optimum safety for children and adults. A first-aid post is located at the head of the beach.

Water temperature averages 21.1°C in August, with variations from 20°C to 23°C.

A beach for naturists

Approximately 500 metres from the first-aid post, walking northwards, there is an area where naturism is tolerated. Although swimming costumes are optional, swimming is not permitted in this area due to the potentially dangerous currents.

A surfing beach in the Landes

Seignosse is renowned for its surf spots, which are among the best in Europe. The Plage des Casernes is one of them. Whether you're an experienced surfer or a beginner, there's something for everyone here, with a nice left in front of the sandy blockhouse, and a good right in front of the big blockhouse.

Depending on the year, there may be a sandbank to the south and/or north of the beach access. It's not unusual for the waves to be hollow, fast and tubular, reaching a height of 1.50 m.

How do I get to Plage des Casernes?

From the Landes 5-star Le Vieux Port campsite, follow the Route des Lacs/D652. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto the D79 towards Capbreton/Hossegor/Seignosse. Turn right onto the D337 (signposted Les Casernes).

There is a large car park (free) where you can park in the shade. The beach is about a 10-minute walk away, accessible via a path through a pine and oak forest (about 500 metres). Many holidaymakers cycle to the beach. There is a parking area for bikes just before you reach the dunes.

Don't forget to follow the safety and environmental guidelines to ensure that this beach remains a natural jewel enjoyed by all.

- The supervised swimming area is marked with two-coloured red and yellow flags.

- It is forbidden to litter the beach with rubbish of any kind, including cigarette butts.

- Campfires and unauthorised camping are prohibited.

- Please note that dogs are not permitted on the beach.
